Casal de Loivos is a town in the municipality of Alijó. Its origins are ancient, and it was in 1260 that it received a charter from King Sancho I (2nd King of Portugal).
It is located near the towns of Pinhão and Sabrosa, in the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, the origin of the world-famous Port Wine.
Its name (Loivos) originates from the word Wolves, which in the past existed in this place and which inspired the image of the Farm.
Located at an altitude of approximately 500m, it offers stunning views over the Douro River, the terraced vineyards, and the village of Pinhão with its railway and metal bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel.
The views from the Casal de Loivos Viewpoint, shared with Quinta Vale das Papas, were considered by the BBC to be among the most beautiful in the world.
Quinta Vale das Papas is located in Casal de Loivos, next to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Fonte Santa. It takes its name from one of the agricultural plots that comprise it.
It has a total of five hectares, with areas of agriculture typical of the region, escarpment areas and rustic forest.
The property has significant agricultural activity, mainly grapes and olives. There are also trees typical of the region, such as almond trees, strawberry trees, holm oaks, and an unusually high number of junipers. Because it has water, an uncommon feature in the region, it also has several fruit trees that supply the house.
